Richard House
I had a volunteering day today at a place called 'Richard House' doing gardening, painting etc with work colleagues. It's a children's hospice in East London about 3 miles from West Ham station. Some of the stuff I saw will probably live with me forever. A 2 year old girl walking around with a carer holding a rucksack that contained her drip. A memorial garden with a fountain in the middle, with water falling onto stones with the names engraved on little ones that passed away there. Really heartbreaking stuff.

I know a lot of you will already give to charities, but if any of you are doing any kind of fundraising in future and don't have a charity that is particularly close to your heart, then please check these guys out - the service they offer is so vital for people in an otherwise hopeless position. It costs £3m a year to run and they only get £1m from the government, so funding is a constant struggle for them. They have 2.6 acres of land, and that is kept in check by a 71 year old retired teacher who volunteers 2 days a week. If any of you are looking for a team building day that's a bit different, then they would be so grateful if a handful of people went down for the day to help with the gardens.

There's a West Ham link as well - Noble goes there every Christmas (pictures of him on the walls) and when we were sorting out the gardens at the front, a huge Rolls Royce pulled up and out stepped Terrence Brown. He came across as a really nice guy actually, and fair play to him for continuing to support the charity.

That's all.

I think that's a great idea. Assume it would just be a case of setting up a justgiving site and away we go. Perhaps a %'age of the winnings from the season long betting competition could be paid into it? And every time someone puts up a horse tip that falls flat on its arse they pay a fine of a few quid? Hopefully at the end of the season there will be a nice little bit in there to have made it worthwhile. Thoughts?

P - Sorry, but I just can't keep up, I can't work out when it's ok to be a cunt or not, but you seem to know the rules!

I will never apologise for being a 'cunt' on here, not in a million years. Now go fuck yourself and stop taking things so seriouslyy you big fucking blouse.

Hasans, I do a bit for st Christopher's. It really is a worth while cause.

Private Dancer - you really are a proper cunt. This is a good thread and doesn't need you acting all... Well you. Just leave it to the nice comments. Most charities need all the help they can get and if this thread gets them an extra couple of quid then that's a good thing.

The club used to do a lot of work and fundraising for Richard House back when Terry Brown was in charge.

Good on you Andy

My missus used to volunteer at st Christopher's in Sydenham. Used to go to pick her up, sometimes ending up staying for hours talking to patients and their families. It was very moving. As crassus said, a kids one would probably be way too much for me. I ended up running in a few events in their name.

Like Richard House, it relies heavily on donations which I was initially really shocked at. After the bobby moore , hospice care is what I raise or donate for. They really do a great job

Nothing like 'but I don't like to talk about it' is there. Sounds like Brown had you fooled, most people can appear to be nice when they want to be, the fella is clearly a huge cunt. End of.

And oh, well done Andy..

Re: Richard House
Maybe WHO could have a charity each new season that we support and raise money for ?. I'd be up for getting involved.

Demelza house used to be near me in Kent and I always wanted to give some of my time but I never got around to it, shameful on my part.

Happy to give some of my time on something if we as a group organise it.

Excellent work Andy.

It does make me wonder though, why does a service like this require charity? Of all the things that a government should fund 100%, surely this is one of the most deserving?

Can never work this out.

Re: Richard House
Good work , andy

Is Richard House still an official charity of the club?
Mark Noble does seem to be heavily involved . Of course Richard House were one of the 3 charities who shared his testimonial proceeds along with Help For Heroes and the Dylan Tombides charity.

Andy

Fair play to you mate - i have seen and dealt with some real shit in my life but frankly I am not ashamed to admit that a kids hospice would reduce me to bits

And I have spent time in them, adult places, with both good reason and doing so to meaningfully help

But kids,,,,,

You're a better man than me, so thank you for doing what I could not, I can make a donation and will but the world is a better for those that give that most precious of things - time

Please do - anything that results in them getting more money is a winner.

Re: Richard House
Andy this is the charity my brothers wife asked people to donate to instead of buying flowers for his funeral.

She still does fundraisers for Richard House in his name. Would you be ok with me posting the justgiving link on here?
